Math, Science and Technology Through Design

“An integrated approach to delivering standards through relevant instruction”

Keynote Presentation

A keynote address from Alastair Livesey,Director of Hydrogen Energy Systems of the innovative Energy Conversion Devices in Auburn Hills, Michigan, will look at the value of learning through design problem solving that naturally involves the integration of math, science and technology in ways students see as meaningful.

He has extensive background in alternative power sources for automotive transportation, including batteries, hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles and systems. Alastair Livesey, received his Ph.D. in experimental physics from Cambridge University’s renowned Cavendish Laboratory in 1984 for work he did on the structure of amorphous materials. He is married and has two children. ECD manufactures cutting-edge products in three rapidly growing global markets: energy generation, energy storage and information technology. ECD’s web site address is http://www.ovonic.com.

Dr. Livesey currently serves as Vice President of the Sustainable Energy Foundation, a student-led non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and implementing sustainable energy projects in developing countries, and as Director for the Metropolitan Detroit Science and Engineering Fair.
