LITE Profile

The Learning Institute for Technology Education, established in 1993, is a leader in providing educators the tools and resources for implementing Design and Technology in their programs.

It was the dream of Dr. Harry Padelford to give all K-12 teachers the support and guidance provide students learning opportunities in the context of solving real problems, “design and Technology”.

Our board of directors consists of educators at all levels and most specialty areas. We are volunteers, supporting the organization with our time and efforts, knowing that the need is great.

We provide Workshops, Seminars, documentation, integration tools and resources for teachers. We are also committed to developing state and national standards for the teaching and learning of Design and Technology content.

WHAT EDUCATORS SAY ABOUT US?

“After attending a LITE conference I feel charged with great ideas for activities and Monday-morning lessons.”

-Joe, Lincoln High School , Ypsilanti

“I like the common sense approach of integrating design into my busy lessons to give them a real-world context. My students love it and they build knowledge and skills.”

-Tom, Ann Arbor , Middle School Teacher

“There are lots of materials out there for the upper grades, but LITE includes the elementary teacher and students. I like that.”

-Chris, Grand Rapids Elementary Teacher

Technological Studies is problem-based learning utilizing math, science, and technology principles. It involves: designing, developing, and utilizing technological systems, open-ended, design activities, cognitive, manipulative, and affective learning strategies. Students apply technological knowledge and processes to real world experiences using resources, working individually as well as in teams to solve problems
